Nathan’s hot dogs are more than world Famous, they’re record setting. On Friday, September 2nd, in front of a crowd of hungry fans, we set the Guinness World Record for Longest line of hot dogs in a row!
“Nathan’s already stands out in the minds of consumers as the world’s leading premium hot dog,” said Nathan’s executive vice president Scott Harvey. “Setting this hot dog world record is the perfect way to kick off the Labor Day grilling weekend on our anniversary year.”
Anticipation set in early at Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Station, Manhattan, when Nathan’s Famous partnered with Guinness World Records to set the stage for a day of fun, record breaking, and celebrity appearances!
The day started with a Fan Fest to fire up the crowd, which included games, swag, fortune telling, and a glimpse at the coveted Mustard Belt. As the morning continued, the crowd grew as the large ‘100’ in tables, representing Nathan’s 100 Year Anniversary, were set up.
Major League Eating commentator and legendary Hot Dog Eating Contest announcer, George Shea arrived to get the event started as only he could; and, joined by world record holder Joey Chestnut, got everyone pumped setting a new world record. Then the Nathan’s team jumped in to start making this dream a reality.
As the lines of hot dogs started to grow so did the crowd of people watching both in person and worldwide as the event was broadcast on Facebook Live.
Fan quote: “Wow! 1,916 dogs! My guess was 2,016. I was over by 100 dogs.. Can't beat a hot dog with ketchup and mustard! Way to go Nathan's!”
After all the hot dogs were lined up, the Guinness World Records staff gave the official statement – Nathan’s beat the record and set the title for the Longest line of hot dogs with 1,916 hot dogs end to end for our 100th Anniversary.
Best of all? No record-setting hot dog went to waste. Every hot dog was given out to the fine folks of New York City who came to cheer on The Original. Yum!
